Rooted in Service: How Affinity Team Members Give Back to Their Communities
October 31, 2025
At Affinity, our mission goes beyond financial wellbeing - it’s about helping people thrive in every part of life. One of the most meaningful ways we live through that mission is through service. Across our footprint, employees dedicate their time, talents, and hearts to making a difference in the communities we call home. Their stories remind us that acts of kindness, big or small, can create powerful ripples of hope and connection.
This past Father’s Day, one of our employees spent time at the Pacific House Shelter, offering free haircuts to residents. For many of the men there, it was their first time in years sitting in a barber’s chair. What began as a simple gesture quickly became something deeper — a chance to restore dignity and remind them that they are seen, valued, and not alone. “As I listened to their stories and shared laughs, I realized how much we all need to feel that someone is thinking about us,” they shared. “A fresh haircut, a smile, or a conversation can make someone feel human again.” (Hugo R. – Business Banker)
Another team member volunteered at the Augustana Home in East Bridgeport, CT, where they also provided haircuts to residents who hadn’t had access to this simple service in years. The gratitude expressed by those they helped was unforgettable. “We often take the little things for granted,” they reflected. “Seeing their joy reminded me just how powerful small acts of kindness can be.” (Hugo R. – Business Banker)
Affinity employees also lend their time to causes close to their hearts. One volunteer regularly supports Tabby’s Place in Ringoes, NJ — a sanctuary for cats in need of special care. “Giving these animals the love they deserve, when no one else can care for them, soothes my soul,” they shared, highlighting Berry, a cat with spina bifida who receives daily care from the dedicated staff. (Rachael M. – Sr. Digital Branch Representative)
Another employee turned their personal journey into purpose by organizing a breast cancer awareness walk to support Evolve Pink, a local nonprofit that empowers women through healing and community. What began as a goal of 50–100 participants grew into nearly 500 people walking together in solidarity. “It was incredible to see the community support and to share how this group helped me heal,” they said. (Nikki N. – Financial Services Consultant)
When a group of Affinity employees volunteered their time at a Financial Reality Fair hosted at a local community college, their goal was simple: to help students get a real taste of what life and budgeting looks like beyond the classroom. During the fair, students were given mock salaries and expenses, then challenged to make financial decisions about housing, transportation, food, and entertainment. What started as an exercise quickly turned into eye-opening conversations about priorities, trade-offs, and the importance of planning ahead. “I could see the lightbulb moments happening. Some students realized how quickly everyday costs add up, while others learned that saving even a little each month can make a big difference.” (Jessica H. – Brand and Communications Senior Manager)
Each of these stories reflects the heart of Affinity: people helping people. Together, we’re not just serving our members; we’re uplifting our communities, one act of kindness at a time.
