Affinity’s commitment as a credit union is to support the financial success and wellbeing for all our members. Our dedication runs deep, informed by our member-first philosophy and the member-owned model that’s defined us since the start. 2025 marks our 90th anniversary year - our ninth decade of working together to grow with our members, built on a shared foundation of community and trust.

Affinity began in 1935, one year after President Roosevelt signed the Federal Credit Union Act. Our goal, since those earliest days, has been to support our members and help them achieve their dreams. As a federal credit union, we are a not-for-profit cooperative focused on the needs of members, not shareholders. We operate as a full-service financial institution with a community center and a “people helping people” ethos. We strive to make each of our 20 branches a hub for connection and financial education. As the largest credit union in New Jersey, we’re an active, present partner for small businesses, local families, and members new and old throughout the state. Over the years, we have deepened these relationships and expanded into Connecticut and New York.

We provide personalized service, educational initiatives, and opportunities for financial education through accessible resources and events. In 2005, our partner organization the Affinity Foundation was incorporated in New Jersey to lead our philanthropic work. The Foundation provides grants, hosts fundraising events, and uses its tax-deductible donations to support member wellness and end the cycle of poverty. It aims to make essential services, including healthcare and education, available to all our members and their communities.

Affinity’s priorities remain constant year to year, but 2024 brought landmark achievements in growth and member support. We opened new branches in Lawrence and Denville, and we continued that momentum into the new year by opening our newest branch in White Plains, NY. In 2025, we continue to serve and expand our member communities further.

Education and accessibility are core to Affinity’s mission. In 2024, we improved website accessibility with the launch of AI-powered Spanish translations, making our vast library of financial education resources available to Spanish speakers. We held over 240 financial education events, serving 7,500 participants, across our branches. We organized Financial Reality Fairs, delivering hands-on financial education simulations to hundreds of students at New Jersey high schools and colleges. We graduated over 40 new Certified Wellbeing Coaches to support members in each Affinity branch. We released blogs, recorded Wellbeing and Your Wallet podcast episodes, and engaged our communities by showing up for local festivals, runs, and events. This year, we continue to expand these efforts and support even more members.

In 2024, the Foundation also saw notable expansion and engagement. We gave over $240,000 in combined grants for relief, education, and local organizations. We launched the New Jersey Credit Union Food Cooperative, along with First Harvest and EdiFi, filling local food pantries in time for Thanksgiving. We pursued our community mission across multiple fronts, building upon a long-standing tradition of service.

At the end of 2025, we look ahead to celebrating our 90th anniversary with special events and recognition. However, we honor our legacy and create a stronger future every day that we connect with our members. Affinity is committed to you - to more events, more educational opportunities, and more supported members within our community. If our history is anything to go by, we’re certain that our future will be bright.
