In the heart of every community, there are individuals and organizations that dedicate themselves tirelessly to the betterment of those around them. At Affinity Federal Credit Union, we believe we’re not just a financial institution but an organization that provides for the wellbeing of our members, offering support and guidance through life’s journeys. Rooted in the philosophy of "people helping people," we believe it takes efforts both inside and outside the walls of our branches to foster well-being, embodying the true spirit of giving back. Below are some recent highlights where the spirit of community came through action.

Impact Day: A Day of Service and Solidarity

On October 9, 2023, we partnered with our colleagues at The Affinity Foundation for our second annual Impact Day. We closed our branches in New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut so staff members could volunteer their time to support local organizations and better their communities. Volunteers lent a hand at food pantries, senior centers, soup kitchens, and youth organizations. Some rolled up their sleeves to clean up a number of local parks and gardens. In all, 18 events were held throughout the tristate.

A haircut provides hope and confidence

In November, our team showcased our commitment to community well-being through a heartwarming collaboration with a local barber shop. Hugo Ramirez, a Stamford, CT native and Affinity business banker in our Norwalk, CT branch, spearheaded an initiative to provide free haircuts to men at Pacific House, a local emergency shelter, with the goal of instilling confidence and dignity in those facing challenging times. The impact of this initiative was profound, with about 25 men receiving much-needed haircuts, boosting their morale and readiness to face the world with renewed confidence. A key takeaway from this experience – financial well-being is intrinsically linked to overall self-esteem and community support.

Support for our youth

In January, Hugo Ramirez and his team joined forces with Wildacre Rotisserie a local restaurant to reward students of a local system for their hard work. We hosted an event for the students of Stamford, CT public schools' Anchor program, which provides a learning environment for those facing challenges battling depression, school phobia, or anxiety. The event reflects our holistic approach to well-being, recognizing the vital role that emotional and physical support plays in the educational success and overall health of young people.

Through actions big and small, we remain committed to the principle of "people helping people." It also serves as a reminder of the power of community and the profound impact of giving back. Through initiatives like these, our team not only aims to help individuals and families achieve wellbeing but also lay the foundation of hope, dignity, and unity in the communities it serves, proving that together, we can make a difference.
