February is Black History Month. Black History Month, also often referred to as African American History Month, is a month of tribute to honor and celebrate African American history and achievement. This month, Affinity would like to showcase black-owned businesses that are making a difference in their communities.

Julia Moore is the owner of Hair by Julia Moore and Moore’s Hair Loss Clinic and Wellness Center, located in the Wall Street area of Norwalk, CT, where she has lived most of her life. Hair by Julia Moore encompasses both her expertise as a hair care stylist and specialist, but also as a personal stylist, educator, and a certified trichologist. She has experience working with bridal parties, photo shoots, children with special needs, fashion shows, and several exclusive events. Her work has also been published in various fashion magazines. Julia is also the CEO and Founder of Y.L.T.R.A.P.P.E.D. (Young Ladies Taking Responsibility and Portraying Proper Educational Development), an organization that mentors young women and models excellence in school, work, and at home.

Letrice Green has over 10 years’ experience in the beauty industry. She began her beauty career at the tender age of 17. After leaving high school, she dove head-first into the makeup world. She applied and was hired at Ulta Cosmetics, where she acquired her makeup skills. She then ventured into freelance makeup artistry, where she did bridal, fashion show, and celebrity makeup jobs. As her love for beauty grew, she pursed her esthetician license in the state of New Jersey. Letrice now specializes in full-body waxing, facials, brow tinting and makeup.

God is Faithful – GIF Inc

Daryl Perkins has been a member of Affinity since 2020. His transportation business, God is Faithful – GIF Inc, has been in business since 1985, starting with transporting beauty products in his car. His business continued to grow, with contracts from RPS and FedEx, allowing him to grow his business, fleet of transportation vehicles, and tractors. After 27 years of being in the business, Daryl decided to follow his heart, sold all of his assets, and went into the Ministry as a pastor. In 2019, however, he decided to go back into the transportation business, quickly becoming the direct provider for several large companies. Today, his company operates 14 tractor trailers. His secret for success: faith and commitment to service, integrity, safety, and to always keep his word.

Troy Chavers is the owner of Aubri's Mobile Kitchen, which specializes in seafood boils and other unique seafood dishes. After several years of operating out of his two-bedroom apartment, Troy decided to take his show on the road. With the help of Affinity Federal Credit Union and Troy’s own determination, his mobile kitchen business became a reality in 2019..
